On behalf of the entire organizing committee of the 2005 Southeastern Stamp Show, I would like to welcome you to our website. This year promises to be a very momentous year for philately in the Southeast. At the time of writing, our entire community is busy preparing for the APS AmeriStamp Winter Show to be held here in Atlanta in February.
This tremendous event for our hobby and our city comes on the heels of Peach State Stamp Show 2004, which was the biggest and best Peach State we have had yet. And the success of that show was the result of contributions by stamp collectors from a wide geographic area, including Georgia and its surrounding states. To better recognize those efforts, we have formally changed the name of the Peach State Stamp Show to the Southeastern Stamp Show.
But only the name has changed. What has not changed is our location, our 30 dealer bourse, our outstanding philatelic exhibit competition, and the dozens of volunteers from all over the Southeast who come together to put on this great show.
The Southeastern Stamp Show is an APS World Series of Philately event. That means it attracts some of the most outstanding exhibits from across the country, as the nation’s leading philatelists vie for an opportunity to compete in a “Champion of Champions” competition at the APS summer show. In fact, of our 28 exhibits in 2004, 12 won gold awards. Seldom is such outstanding material gathered in one building.
Peach State 2004 was successful in many other areas, including
- a 50% increase in overall attendance from 2003
- a 30 dealer bourse consisting of leading stamp dealers from across the country
- the introduction of our first annual cachetmakers’ bourse on Saturday afternoon
- the hosting of no fewer than three society meetings, including the Mobile Post Office Society, the Postal History Society, and the Georgia Postal History Society
Hosting philatelic societies for their annual gatherings is a delight for our community. We are honored to welcome the United Postal Stationery Society, Auxiliary Markings Club, Georgia Postal History Society and the Southern Regional Meeting of the Universal Ship Cancellation Society in 2005, and the American Airmail Society in 2006.
And so to everyone, do make every attempt to join us in September of 2005 for the Southeastern Stamp Show. It’s the only truly national show in our region, and no serious stamp collector can afford to miss it. See you there!

Show Theme
This year's show theme celebrates Rotary International's 100th year of service to the world. Since Paul Harris first gathered a group of colleagues and acquaintances together in Chicago in 1905, Rotary has expanded to over 30,000 clubs operating in over 160 countries. And during those 100 years, Rotarians have demonstrated their motto of “Service above Self” through humanitarian grants supporting health care, clean water, food, youth development and education for needy people around the world. Typical of these efforts was Rotary’s initiative in 1985 to eradicate polio through a global vaccination program, resulting in a 99% decrease in polio cases since 1988.

Souvenir Cover
Orders received for 2005 show cover click here.
To further honor Rotary, a special commemorative envelope, or cover, will be produced. This cover will feature a graphic cachet of Rotary’s centennial logo, a special post office cancel, and usage of the 1955 US stamp that honored the 50 th anniversary of Rotary. This beautifully engraved 8-cent stamp will no doubt be the centerpiece of the cover, as it is the only American issue that celebrates Rotary International. At 50 years old, quantities of this stamp are becoming difficult to find, so this special commemorative cover will be a limited edition.
To honor Rotary’s 100 years of service, many postal services around the world have issued commemorative stamps. But to the dismay of many Rotarians here in the United States, the United States Postal Service elected not to issue a Rotary centennial stamp. As a result, this Southeastern Stamp Show cover will likely be one of the few “made in America” philatelic tributes to Rotary’s century of service.
