SEPTEMBER 28 - 29, 2007

On behalf of the 2007 Southeastern Stamp Show organizing committee, I would like to welcome you to our website.

Our 2007 show has much to offer. Our theme this year is the 75th anniversary of the first election of Franklin Delano Roosevelt to the presidency of the United States. FDR had quite a connection to us here in the south, as he underwent his polio rehabilitation at Warm Springs, Georgia, and would later build the Little White House, which is also 75 years old in 2007. As a result, our commemorative cover this year will actually be canceled at the Little White House in Warm Springs the Saturday before the show.

Furthermore, we have received commitments from several exhibitors to provide philatelic exhibits that celebrate FDR’s life and presidency. We are grateful to Eliot Landau for making his spectacular illustrated mail exhibit of the 1945 FDR memorial set available to us. This is exhibit has won many high awards, and is a feast for the eyes. It alone is worth the drive to Marietta.

Our dealer bourse will be more than 25 dealers strong this year, and we welcome a number of new dealers, who will provide some diversity among the material available to help fill your want lists. And at this time, we still anticipate a visit back from our cachetmakers on the Saturday of the show. This is a great opportunity to buy first day covers directly from the artists who created them.

Among our special visitors this year will be regional meetings of the Auxiliary Markings Club, the Errors, Freaks and Oddities Society and the Scouts on Stamps Society International (SOSSI). And, of course, we always welcome back the Georgia Postal History Society.

This year our show will be only a two day affair, running on Friday Sept. 28th and Saturday the 29th. We will not be open Sunday. After several years of very low attendance on Sunday, we have decided to experiment with a two-day show this year, and transfer the funds used to support Sunday to other parts of the show, including youth philately and advertising. We have received an exemption from the APS to conduct this experiment and still retain our full World Series of Philately accreditation.

Last but not least, we have been advised by Peter Mastrangelo, the Executive Director of the APS, that the 2007 Southeastern Stamp Show is on his calendar. We expect to have a meet-and-greet session with Peter on the Saturday, and he is looking forward to meeting as many APS members from Georgia and surrounding states as we can muster.

The 2007 show is shaping up to be the best ever. Please mark your calendars now to join us in Marietta, Georgia, the last weekend in September.
