American Airmail Society Dinner

On behalf of the entire Southeastern Stamp Show organizing committee for 2006, I would like to welcome you to our web site. Here you will find all the essential elements about our show, as well as historical information about some previous shows.

The 2006 show promises to be one of our best ever. We are honored to host the Fall Convention of the American Airmail Society. We have already had commitments from exhibitors who plan to travel from as far away as England to be with us. Our exhibition should be one of the finest displays of aero philately ever seen in the southeastern states. Remember that the Southeastern Stamp Show is an APS World Series of Philately event, meaning that our Grand Award winner will receive an invitation to exhibit in the Champion of Champion competition at the APS Summer Show (Stamp Show) in 2007.

A national stamp show like Southeastern has much of offer. Take time to peruse our dealer list below. Chances are that elusive items that you have been searching for will be found in the stocks of these fine dealers. And if you collect First Day Covers, you won’t want to miss our Cachet makers’ Bourse on Saturday afternoon (September 23rd), where you can purchase cacheted First Day Covers directly from the artists who produced them.

What often gets overlooked is what I consider to be the most important part of the show, and that is our youth activities area. Here, young collectors can do various activities designed to teach them about stamps, not to mention that they can pick stamps from many different boxes for free.

Putting on this show is a time-consuming and costly event. I am grateful to the members of my organizing committee, whose only reward is successful completion of an annual event that they know is vital to the hobby. I’m also grateful to any volunteers who staff our front table, assist with the setup or teardown of our exhibits, or work with youngsters at our youth table.

There are many ways you too can help. We gladly accept tax-deductible donations of any amount, for which we promptly provide a receipt. Another great way to support the show is to buy one of our show covers. This year, we honor the 80th anniversary of the first airmail flight into Atlanta. In fact, the commemorative stamp we are using to frank the cover is one of the new indicia mailing labels, which shows the very aircraft that flew the first flight.

So start planning to attend the 2006 Southeastern Stamp Show now, because it is the very presence of collectors like you who make an annual gathering of stamp collectors the fun event it is.

Show Theme

Southeastern Stamp Show will recognize the 80th anniversary of airmail into and out of Atlanta on Sept. 15, 2006. The airmail route between Atlanta and Miami was designated "CAM 10" (which means Contract Air Mail Route No. 10). On this day in 1926, Atlanta postmaster E. K. Large flew out of Atlanta's airport aboard a Florida Airways contract airmail flight with mail destined for Jacksonville and Miami--the first airmail flight out of Atlanta. At Jacksonville, Large got out and caught the first Miami-Atlanta airmail flight back to Atlanta, where he unloaded the first packet of airmail coming into Atlanta.

We have an image of the Florida Airways Stinson-Detroiter No. 8 that flew into Atlanta with the first airmail on the afternoon of Sept. 15. We have used this image on a special stamp and the cachet on a souvenir cover to mark the event.

The early airmail routes were critical to establishing Atlanta--instead of Birmingham--as the major air hub in the Southeast. To mark the coming of airmail to Atlanta, the Southeastern Stamp Show will honor the first flight with special displays and have copies of the souvenir cover available for collectors at our annual show Sept. 22-24 in Marietta.
