The Cobb County Stamp Club was organized
in 1979, during a stamp show held at the South Cobb Mall
sponsored by the Atlanta Stamp Club. The founding members
were Jim Jordan and John Kovalski. Since then the club has
grown to over forty members. A good number of our Club’s
members are also members of other stamp clubs in the Atlanta
area, all of which are members of the Southeast Federation
of Stamp Clubs. The main purpose of the SFSC is the annual
sponsorship of the Peach State Stamp Show held each September
(a WPS show under APS). Our Club is also a member of the
American Philatelic Society (Chapter #118815).
Our Club sponsored the first COCOPEX show
in 1983. The theme was “Commemorating 250 Years of Georgia
Agriculture “ and it was an official event of the Georgia
Semiquincentenary Commission. Annually, our Club sponsors
a COCOPEX show in Cobb County.
Throughout the years our Club has had many
past presidents, with some serving more than one year. Among
them were Jim Jordan, Lindsey Garrison, Frank Fogle, Jim
Hart, Bill Beck, Holly Hart, Susan Solida, Paul MacDonald,
Jim Wentzell, Neil Boatwright, Jerry Goldoff and our current president Cass Rejent.
Membership includes a wide range of experience
and collecting interests, from worldwide dealers (with over
forty years of experience), to persons that only collect
a specific country, to novices. All are welcome.
Regular meetings are held on the 2nd and
4th Sundays of each month (except for conflict with other
stamp shows and holidays). Our meetings start promptly at
1:30 PM with about fifteen minutes of club/SFSC business
matters, followed by a raffle (tickets are twenty-five cents
each) and then an auction of items for sale by the members
(there are no commissions for either the buyer or seller).
At the meeting held on the second Sunday of the month, after
our business portion, we usually have a guest speaker (member)
discuss for ten to twenty minutes a specific area of the
hobby that most interests the speaker (sort of “show and
tell” format).
